Super Bowl - Space Raider Victory

It was a tough tough day in Texan Territory. The Space Raiders beat the Texans by 1 point - 13 to 12 to become the 2006 Freshman TIFI Champions. Congratulations Space Raiders - well done. Both teams played their hearts out. It was a difficult way to end such a great season.

Nathan and I were coming home from the game - there were alot of tears from both of us. His because of the loss of the game - mine, well I hate to see my boy hurt and disappointed. It was a quiet ride - no music - nothing - until I broke the silence. I asked Nathan if I could say some things to him that I thought he needed to hear. He nodded his head yes.

I told him that I was proud of him and his team the way they played today. They played hard, they were well coached and they listened to their coaches. I said that he would be playing in many more ball games in his life - football, baseball, and basketball (anything but soccer ... grin) and he would win some and he would loose some. He probably would be playing in playoff and championship games again - and he would win some and loose some.

But that isn't what should define him. I told him not to let winning or loosing ball games define him as a man. When he and his team won - which they will - to win with dignity, humility and grace. And when they lost - which they will - to do so with dignity, humility and grace.

I told him he was a gift from God - and I was so proud for Sharon and I to be his parents- regardless of if he ever played another game. His value wasn't determined on a field - he was loved and accepted unconditionally.

It was a cool moment. Our puffy eyes met and hearts still hurting - we both knew all would be well.

Don't forget to love on you kids. They are really incredible.

MOVIE NEWS - The Game movie has every play (except for the one's I missed when the old guy in the wheel chair made me move - he was a grumpy piece of work wasn't he?) The length of the move is about 23 minutes long.

Here are some pics from the game.
